About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Lanier Golf Club in Cumming is a public championship course that is located just a half hour north of Atlanta. Opened in 1970, the course has undergone many renovations over the years that have increased the playability of the original layout. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels but it still offers a challenge, which is why in its past it has been chosen as a Georgia Amateur qualifying and U.S. Open qualifying course. There are tall trees along the fairways that will require a bit of accuracy and a heavy smattering of strategically placed bunkers also present a challenge. The occasional water hazard also comes into play. In addition to the golf course, Lanier G.C. has a driving range and short-game practice area that is open to the public as well.

Poorly maintained Course
The golf course is very poorly maintains. The course is overgrown with weeds. Nothing like rough- fairway or thick weeds.
Staff was very unfriendly and rude. Do not recommend this golf course
The best part of this course was the speed of the greens. Could use someTLC everywhere else.
Low maintenance course
This course is a low maintenance course. If you’re trying to sneak in a round this is where you end up. For the price it is a good course. I had no issues.
don't blink, you may miss it
For a 'top notch' club with such high ratings, I was a little disappointed with this club. As soon as you pull into the parking lot, it feels like you are going to some slum on a golf course. The parking area is absolutely horrible...potholes in the lot and very poorly marked.
The clubhouse looks like it is falling apart and is very empty. Rumor has it was that they were going to fix it up, however, it must have been a rumor, because they didn't do anything to it.
The golf carts are really beat up as well. holes in the seats held together with duct tape.
However, once you are on the course, things seem a little better. The course is decently maintained...meaning that the course has some really nice holes, however, some are poorly maintained (grass cuttings all over), HUGE Ant hills (fire ants) on the course and on the green.
The sand traps are hardened sand, and some of them are even turned into quicksand traps (sand traps with lots of water)
The rest of the course was nice though - very narrow course play, which made it pretty good. front nine was not as nice as the back nine. The houses along the course are beautiful, and there is a cart girl who comes to the course offering drinks at a reasonable price.
I would play it again, however, don't think it is really worth more than $25 per player.
As Expected
What can you say. Played 18 holes in under 4 hrs on a perfect Friday. Weather was nice. Patrons were as always pleasant.
Listen, I get it, this is not a TPC course, but its all you need to get out and hit a few. Its early spring and the summer grass hasn't hit the fairways, so its not lush in the middle like you'd want, but really, the traps are mostly soft sand, the t-boxes were good and the greens very respectable; meanwhile the ponds are full of golf balls!
I like this course and will probably play it two or three more times this summer as normal.
C you out there!
A fun course to play
A fun course to play. My service dog and I had a great time on this challenging golf course
Ok for a hot deal
I would not pay more than $20 to play this course anymore. It has seen better days. The fairways are in terrible shape. The greens tee boxes were ok. I do like the layout of the course which is why I still play it over the years.
Maintenance
Ive frequented this course many times in the past and will continue to play here in the future. However, lets be honest, the fairways are underwhelming to say the least. You can be dead center in the middle of fairway on some holes and still be hitting off of clay and dirt. This might be the only complaint i have with this course. Otherwise, great course for under $40.
Perfect Round With my Service Dog
It was just one of those not so pretty days where I played my best on a tough course
Decent course...
Decent course and conditions...it was very cold and windy 40 10k wind. The course seemed in pretty good condition. Greens were extremely fast, way to much sand for my liking. The cart paths were really pretty rough especially going to the practice tee. Looked like practice green was unusable.
Overall, decent and worth 30 dollars...wouldn't pay much more however.
Lanier
Found the guys at the clubhouse to be friendly and helpful. The clubhouse and course can use some upgrades. Understand they have some zoning issues but have seen the course full many days. They can reinvest some of that into better maintenance. Otherwise it was a fun outing with my son and some friends.
Fun course and friendly staff
My 1st time playing on this course and could tell at one time this was a gem. Staff said the course was being sold for more housing developments.
This course had to be a premier course in the past and I was happy to experience it before closing.
High Recommend
Course in great shape, only issue some bunkers could use some sand. Going back soon!
