About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Lanier Golf Club in Cumming is a public championship course that is located just a half hour north of Atlanta. Opened in 1970, the course has undergone many renovations over the years that have increased the playability of the original layout. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels but it still offers a challenge, which is why in its past it has been chosen as a Georgia Amateur qualifying and U.S. Open qualifying course. There are tall trees along the fairways that will require a bit of accuracy and a heavy smattering of strategically placed bunkers also present a challenge. The occasional water hazard also comes into play. In addition to the golf course, Lanier G.C. has a driving range and short-game practice area that is open to the public as well.

Best Value
The course is in very good condition. The greens are excellent but challenging due to many of them are two or three tier greens. The course facilities are fair. They may benefit from are new club house and bathroom facilities on the course.
Today was perfect
The course was the best I've seen it in years. I would recommend this course at this time. Greens were clean and fast with no areas of disease as in the past. The food needed some help
Great course for the money.
Older course with many tree lined fairways. Mostly plays short but does have a couple of long par 3's.
course in much better shape
I was once a member when we had one of the best courses in Georgia. i played here 3 months ago and was worried . thought it would never be that course again. today i played with an old member and had a blast. greens are great(even 8) the fairways were hard and fast. there fixing the traps but were playable. this course can really challenge the best golfer. so yes it's worth the time and money. play early week and you don't see as many slow players.
Lanier making a come back
Greens are coning back very nicely, fairways a re good - still working on some of the bunkers.
Great value for the prioe.
The course is in excellent condition
Great course at reasonable price. Course conditions are excellent. Staff is friendly and food is good. Food and locker facilities are basic but the course is really well maintained and rarely are there crowds.
Nice round
Weekday round on a hot day was pleasant and course was in much better condition than previous rounds. Will return as long as take this kind of care of course.
Good course
Classic course that was once a top course in the area. Facilities could use renovations but love the layout and variety of the course overall.
Great Layout
Still one of the best course layouts in the state.
This course is has great trap positions and wide fairways.
This course has great fairways, traps systems and greens are
excellent. The staff are friendly and are working hard to maintain the beautiful golf course. One of the best things about
this course other than it is very "playable" is the tree shading on ever hole. I recommend this course to both the good players and those learning to play golf. It suits all types of players. Great job to all the Lanier personnel for making playing golf fun and challenging.
Great course
Nothing but positive things to say about this course! Great round of golf!
Horrible Staff
The only reason I ever play at this course is because it's generally very cheap. However, I will no longer be back because I was kicked off by the worst pro shop attendant in history. My tee time was for 2:06 p.m., and since NO ONE was on the course, I thought I would go ahead and play. After playing through the 5th hole, and keep in mind there's no one on the course, I was told to come back to the pro shop and was then asked to leave. Absolutely ridiculous. Not only is the staff incredibly rude to a U.S. Marine Veteran, but the course is atrocious. Avoid at all costs!!
An Atlanta Gem
I shouldn't write this. Don't want too many people to regard this Lanier Course as favorably as me, but on a day that could have been a total rain out, was in fact a good round.
Played Lanier 4 or 5 times now. I like it and will play again. Fortunately for us, it rained all morning so many who booked probably didn't show. Except for being cart path only, we'd have been done in little over 3 hours.
Course is in good shape, the folks are pretty nice and hospitable.
Playing well
At other times, this course has not been in good shape. Played it yesterday at the last minute. Was really pleased by how good a shape it was in, fairways, greens; all playing well. No bare spots. For $40 was a good deal for last minute. 3:40 pace of play for 18. New gas golf carts. Locker room still very rough as is the parking lot, but would certainly play here again this summer. Not elegant, but course in really good shape.
Good course BUT.....
No complaints whatsoever about the course. However, I hadn't played here in 2 years. I clicked on the map it link in the GOLFNOW confirmation e-mail and it took me 2 exits out of the way. Luckily the course was able to fit me in since I was playing as a single.
In decent shape
Really good course for the money as long as you don't have to play a 4.5 hr round of golf. Was able to get on by myself and play through with no problems. Played 2 balls on every hole and finished in 3 hrs. With that in mind, $32 is a great deal.
Needs a lot of work
Lanier is not in very good shape as greens are extremely rough. Pace of play was 5 hours with no real push by club to speed up play. The course did not have beer or a beverage cart. If you could go elsewhere you would be better served.
challenging need all the shots
This is a nice course. But it was 90 degrees today. They had no cart girl today and also every water cooler was empty.
An ok course
You get what you pay for but still good enough to enjoy playing a round of golf.
Average
Like course layout, all holes have character, greens rough and difficult to putt.
